5 Changes to Improve your Website

If you’re running a small business your website is a vital platform to create new sales, provide resources for current clients and build your business. Once your website is set up, it can be easy to abandon ship and focus on other aspects of your work. But before you take your foot off the gas, from my work as a Virtual Assistant for various small businesses, I want to share 5 changes for your website to keep it at the highest standard and success rate possible.

1. Add your contact details to every page

It may seem obvious but you’d be surprised! Having a clear footer on each web page is an easy way to ensure that website viewers can contact you at any moment. Adding social media icons with links to your various sites is another great way to encourage your website audience to stay connected with you after leaving your site.

2. Improve your SEO

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Spending time on improving your SEO is beneficial to your website as it can increase traffic to your website.

  • Keywords. Think about what your ideal client might search for when browsing the internet for the service you provide. For example: ‘’Virtual assistant for speaker’’. With this in mind, ensure your titles and paragraphs include these keywords.
  • Blog Posts. Blog posts are a great way to improve your SEO as you can target a new market audience. For example, your business is selling Organic Cat Food. You might write a blog post on ‘’How to make your Living space Cosy in 5 Cost-Effective ways’’. When a person who was looking for interior inspiration found your website, they would then discover that you’re the best place to buy Organic Cat Food.

3. Consider your Visual Hierarchy

Visual Hierarchy is helping guide the viewer’s eyes to what is important. Keeping your brand/business name large and at the top of the page is the most obvious one. But another key element to consider is your website layout. Are you guiding your audience to where you want them to focus? Are your services easy to find? Is your newsletter linked and clearly labeled? Can they find your contact details quickly?

4. Add a Call to Action for Website Visitors

A call to action is telling your website users what to do on each page. Adding pop-ups for your newsletter or linking your contact page in your ‘About me bio’ is a really easy way to keep reminding your viewer to click and engage with your work.

5. Update your Information

It goes without saying that keeping your content fresh is crucial to securing new clients. If you have a blog page that hasn’t been active since 2020 they may think that you’re no longer actively running this business. Or perhaps a course you were offering is now fully booked, this should be either taken off your website or marked clearly as fully booked with a link to allow them to sign up for updates on the next release.
